Bass Masters 2000 (Nintendo N64, 1999)
|BASS Masters 2000 from THQ is based on the TV series The BASSMASTERS. The game is endorsed by B.A.S.S. (Bass Anglers Sportsman Society). Real anglers, notably Roland Martin and Shaw Grigsby, Jr., are included, as are real B.A.S.S. tournaments and actual lakes.
BASS Masters 2000 tries to appease die-hard and casual fishing fans alike. Four games modes are available: Exhibition, Tournament, Speed Fishing, and Casting Game. Two-player, split-screen fishing action is available in every mode except Tournament.
Exhibition is a one-day tournament in which you want to have the highest total weight for all the bass you caught. (Other fish are in the lakes, too, but you can only keep bass.) Tournament allows you to compete on the BASS Masters Tournament Trail. If you're good enough, you can qualify for the BASS Masters Classic. From there, you can get new equipment.
The other two modes are arcade-style modes. In Speed Fishing, you have three minutes to catch as many fish as possible. For every fish you catch, you receive a one second time bonus per ounce of that fish's weight. Finally, with the Casting Game, your goal is to cast your lure into a floating target. The highest score wins, and you can extend the game by achieving score plateaus.
You can choose a preset character, or you can create your own angler to save to a Controller Pak. Gender, hat, hair, face, vest, pants, shoes, and name can be mixed and matched to what you want. Depending on the mode, the game can be customized further. The Exhibition mode lets you customize lake conditions (season, weather, temperature, water, and so forth), boats (series and motors), and tackle (rod, line and lure). In the other modes, lake conditions are preset.
BASS Masters 2000 comes as a blue cartridge. It supports the Controller Pak and Rumble Pak. Rumble Pak support is useful to know when to reel in a fish.
