NBA Showdown (Nintendo SNES, 1993)
|This sequel to Bulls vs. Blazers and the NBA Playoffs offers all 27 NBA teams and two All-Star squads from the 1993 season. Other new features include: battery backup to save league leader stats and team standings, player trades, custom teams, injuries, substitutions and fatigue, plus signature moves for 30 players.
While the basic engine is the same, the speed has been tweaked to make it faster than the original. Game modes include a full 82-game Season, Exhibition or Playoffs. Returning from 1992's game are the T-meter free throw system and user-controlled instant replay. For those unfamiliar with the series, the game is played from a horizontal perspective with large players modeled after the NBA pros.
The game could be played in various ways: players could play against each other, or against the computer. Games against the computer were divided into two levels, "exhibition" or "playoffs". Players could pick from any of the NBA teams for the first time, including non-playoff teams. Games could be configured for 2, 5, 8 or 12 minute quarters.
