PGA Tour 96 (Nintendo SNES, 1995)
|Seven different play modes await aspiring golfers in this Super NES version of PGA Tour 96. Tournament, Practice Round, Skins Challenge, Match Play, Shoot-Out, Driving Range and Putting Green are your choices, with support for up to four alternating players. Eight authentic courses have also been included, so you are free to select from the Tournament Players Clubs at Summerlin, Sawgrass, Avenel, Southwind, River Highlands, Las Colinas and Woodlands.
Ten featured professional golfers are also available to play against, including: Tom Kite, Craig Stadler, Mark O'Meara, Fuzzy Zoeller, Jeff Sluman, Lee Janzen, Bruce Lietzke, Davis Love III, Brad Faxon or Jim Gallagher Jr. You can even create your own golfer and save him to battery. As you make a name for yourself on the courses, your statistics and any money or trophies you receive during the Tournament or Skins Challenge will be tracked and recorded. The swing meter is represented by a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen, which has percentage markings to make it easier to estimate the amount of power needed on a particular shot.
Air Hendrix of GamePro gave the SNES version a lukewarm review. He said that the game fails to outdo the Genesis's PGA Tour Golf III, due to the weak audio and absence of features like backspin and 3D terrain, but is superior to the Genesis version of the game and makes an overall "good round of golf". He praised the detailed backgrounds and fluid movements.
