Tecmo Super Baseball (Nintendo SNES, 1994)
In Box is out of stock!
|Tecmo's first foray into the 16-bit baseball market brings together 700 MLBPA players with statistics and ratings based on the 1993 season, complete manager options such as the hit-and-run and double steal, multiple defensive formations, as well as two different hitting views. The Super Nintendo version of the game uses a Mode 7 fielder's perspective in an attempt to make it seem like you're really on the diamond.
The game also features battery backup to save individual batting and pitching statistics, league leaders and team standings. Three game modes include: Season (choose between regular, reduced or short), Preseason (Exhibition) or Super Stars (All-Star game). While the game does not include a Major League Baseball license for authentic team names and logos, teams are listed by city and based on real-life counterparts from 1993. As in previous Tecmo sports titles, you can choose to have the computer simulate games or manage them yourself.
On release, Famicom Tsūshin scored the Super Famicom version of the game a 23 out of 40. GamePro called it "a statistics-filled gaming experience that also generates some real excitement." They complimented the large number of options, the high degree of control over the game, and the rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", though they felt that most of the game's music was mediocre.
