Tecmo Super Baseball (Sega Genesis, 1994)
|Tecmo's first Genesis baseball game brings together 700 MLBPA players with statistics and ratings based on the 1993 season, complete manager options such as the hit and run or double steal, defensive formations, as well as two different hitting views. The Genesis version uses a traditional three-quarter perspective to catch the ball, rather than the Mode 7 fielder's view found in the Super Nintendo game. Both batting and pitching statistics are saved to battery along with league leaders and team standings. Three game modes include: Season (choose between regular, reduced or short), Preseason or Super Stars (All-Star game). The game does not have a Major League Baseball license, so teams are listed by city instead of actual name. As in previous Tecmo sports titles, you can choose to have the computer simulate all games or just manage only.
GamePro called Tecmo Super Baseball "a statistics-filled gaming experience that also generates some real excitement." They complimented the large number of options, the high degree of control over the game, and the rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", though they felt that most of the game's music was mediocre.
