Sega Sports' World Series Baseball, or simply World Series Baseball, is a sports game developed by BlueSky Software and published by Sega for the Genesis/Mega Drive. It is the first game in the series and was originally released in 1994.

The game was a major advancement in Sega baseball games in that it included licensed MLB players and teams (the first baseball video game to have both such licenses [previous baseball video games only had one license]; they are based on the rosters for the 1994 MLB season), and relatively accurate gameplay.

Choose your favorite of all 28 teams in 1994 and lead them through an entire 162-game season (or shorter if that's too much for you), all the way to the World Series. Not only are the teams there, but so are the players. Hit a homer with the Astros and Jeff Bagwell. Steal a base with the Oakland A's and Ricky Henderson. Or strike out a clueless hitter with the Red Sox and Roger Clemens.

Sega created a new interface for this baseball game, unlike any before it. Instead of choosing a ball's velocity and destination as you pitch it, select your pitch and location before you even throw the ball. Instead of taking any old swing, choose if you want to hit for power or contact. You might say this game has everything a 1994 baseball game could have -- minus the players' strike.

San Diego Padres broadcaster Jerry Coleman provides the play-by-play for the game.

GamePro gave the Genesis version a rave review, calling it "arguably the best baseball cart ever." They praised the use of real life teams, players, and stadiums, the accurate graphical recreation of the stadiums, the catcher's-eye view of the action, and the generally impressive graphics.
